The EU AI Act is now in force. NYC Local Law 144 has been active since 2023.
If you're using AI in hiring, compliance isn't aspirational—it's mandatory.
Here's what these regulations require:
→ Annual bias audits of AI tools
→ Transparency about AI use (candidate notifications)
→ Documentation of training data and decision logic
→ Adverse impact testing across protected groups
Most concerning: Many vendors can't or won't provide the technical documentation needed for compliance.
For Organisations: This is a board-level risk issue, not just an HR technology question.
Questions you need answered NOW:
1. Which hiring tools use AI/ML? (More than you think)
2. Do vendors provide bias audit reports?
3. Who owns compliance risk—you or the vendor?
The penalty for non-compliance in NYC alone: Up to $1,500 per violation.
When was your last AI hiring tool audit?
